STAMFORD, Conn., October 6, 2004 — Gartner, Inc. today announced the line-up of leading technology company CEOs who will participate in Mastermind Keynote Interviews at Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2004, to be held October 17-22 in Orlando, Florida.

During these on-stage interviews, Gartner analysts address topical questions to the CEOs on information technology (IT) issues of vital concern to the audience. Interview guests will include:
  • Steve Ballmer, CEO Microsoft
  • Craig Barrett, CEO Intel
  • John Chambers, President & CEO Cisco Systems
  • Scott McNealy, President & CEO Sun Microsystems
Gartner analysts will also conduct a Mastermind Keynote interview with Sean O'Keefe, administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Mr. O'Keefe will explore with the analysts how IT supports NASA's space exploration mission, the role of emerging information technologies in the future of manned space exploration, and the specific challenges public sector organizations face that push the envelope of technology adoption.

Gartner Symposium/ITxpo is one of the largest gatherings of senior IT and business professionals from virtually every major industry category. Attendees will hear Gartner analysts take stock of the IT industry and present actionable advice on how best to meet the challenges of 2005 and beyond. More than 200 presentations are organized into 37 topical tracks. Featured topics include computing infrastructure, enterprise software strategies and the impact of continued market consolidation.

"What separates Gartner Symposium/ITxpo from other IT conferences is the depth, breadth and diversity of our agenda," said Scott Winkler, vice president and Gartner Fellow. "This has become the premier IT conference. Attendees get the advice they need by attending presentations, talking to Gartner analysts, meeting with experts from leading vendors and networking with other IT professionals - all in one venue." Last year's event attracted more than 6500 participants.

Examples of other focus areas at this year's Symposium/ITxpo in Orlando include:
  • Emerging Technologies - how future technologies will transform business, the workplace and society
  • Adopting Global Sourcing - where, when, why and why not
  • Disruptions and Discontinuities ? anticipating the unexpected
  • The Future Role of the IS Organization ? drivers of change and how to take action now
  • The New CIO Leader - challenging traditional notions of management, metrics, risk and IS's role in creating competitive advantage. This is also the subject of a new book by Gartner analysts Ellen Kitzis and Marianne Broadbent, ?The New CIO Leaders: Setting the Agenda and Delivering Results?, scheduled for release this fall.
  • Compliance & Corporate Governance ? how to meet public expectations and improve corporate performance
