New York, July 25, 2000 - Gartner Group Inc. (NYSE: IT and ITB) today announced that Salomon Smith Barney, a member of Citigroup (NYSE: C) has won Gartner's CIO Choice Award. Gartner's IT team regularly reviews best practices of dozens of IT organizations as they plan their own IT implementation, and selected Salomon Smith Barney out of 100 nominees for the award. The award will be presented today by Gartner's CIO, Bart Stanco, who led the IT team in their selection.
In working with Salomon Smith Barney, Gartner found that their management of 50,000 desktops worldwide demonstrated excellence in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), software distribution, help desk and benchmarking and measurement. According to Gartner, it was unusual to find such a level of efficiency in an enterprise that handles such an immense volume of transactions, and considered that technological edge a major competitive advantage.
