Ballmer, Fiorina and McNealy to Participate in Mastermind Keynote Interviews at Gartner's Symposium/ITxpo 2000
STAMFORD, CONN, July 18, 2000 — Gartner Group, Inc. (NYSE: IT AND ITB) today confirmed that three of the technology industry's highest-profile chief executive officers will address attendees at Gartner's Symposium/ITxpo 2000, to be held October 16-20, 2000, in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Participating in the "Masterminds Keynote Interview" on Monday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m., Hewlett-Packard's chairman and CEO, Carly Fiorina, will take center stage in an interview session conducted by leading Gartner analysts. Then on Tuesday, October 17, at 9:00 a.m., Sun Microsystems' chairman and CEO, Scott McNealy, will field analysts' questions. Finally, on Wednesday, October 18, at 8:00 a.m., Microsoft's president and CEO, Steve Ballmer, will take his turn in the Gartner-style forum designed to explore company strategies, vision, competitive issues and technology trends.
Gartner Symposium/ITxpo is the only forum that does not offer traditional "keynote speeches" by guest CEOs. Instead, Gartner analysts lead probing interviews and panel discussions that focus on important enterprise issues, CEO strategies and leading-edge insights. The Gartner Symposium/ITxpo panels will feature Healtheon/Web MD's chairman, Mike Long; iVillage's CEO, Candice Carpenter; TechRepublic's president and CEO, Tom Cottingham; VerticalNet's president and CEO, Mark Walsh; and IBM's general manager of pervasive computing, Mark Bregman.

Panels include:
From 'E-Business' to 'I-Business': The Next Technology Revolution
In this provocative opening Keynote Panel, Gartner analysts will set the stage for a new era — the post e-business age. This new era of interactive business, or "i-business," is the result of the convergence of powerful technologies with new business models.
Content in Context
Remember the beginning of the Internet revolution, when content was king? This Masterminds Panel will take a hard look at content's current state of affairs. Internet heavy-hitters will examine the biggest technology challenges that content providers have had to face — and what they can expect to confront in the future. The panel will explore the ongoing role of content in entertainment, B2B, B2C and internal corporate networks — and how e-services and online applications will fit into the overall content picture.
Mobile and Wireless — Doing Business 24x7
A massive evolution in mobile and wireless technologies is offering new opportunities and challenges, as cellular phone users outnumber Internet users by more than 2-to-1, and work styles and life styles become increasingly mobile. This panel reviews the physical properties of future mobile devices, the range of functionality they will offer, how wireless networks will evolve, and the long-term effect of wireless capabilities on the development of strategies for Web sites and e-commerce initiatives.
