GartnerGroup Launches Study of Emerging Market for Rentable Applications
- Study to Survey 600 Current and Prospective Customers to Determine Market Drivers -
Stamford, Conn., May 12, 1999 -- Gartner Group, Inc. (NYSE: IT), announced today that it is planning an in-depth multiclient study to examine what enterprises must understand to be leaders in the emerging rentable applications market, and in particular, what moves are necessary make rentable applications viable for middle-market customers.
Implementation of enterprise applications such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), and data warehousing can be costly because of factors such as long implementation cycles, high cost of acquisition, and industry-specific customization requirements. Consequently, ERP, CRM and other enterprise application vendors are introducing Web-based rental versions of their software, signaling the emergence of a new market for rentable software applications.
The research will be derived from surveys of 600 current and prospective customers of rentable applications in the United States. It will focus on the following issues:
  • How can the needs of customers that are ready to rent applications be met?
  • What is required to win business from customers that have decided not to take advantage of rentable applications?
  • How can customers that are not aware of the availability of rentable applications be reached?
  • What do customers perceive the drivers and barriers for rentable applications to be?
  • What must be done to develop repeatable solutions?
Sponsorship opportunities for this project are limited. The study is scheduled to begin in June 1999 and results are scheduled for delivery by October 1999. Study findings will be made available only to the sponsors. For more information on participating in the study, contact Russ Bono at +1-408-468-8469 or E-mail russ.bono@gartner.com
